Shrimp Boil

Shrimp boil is a popular Southern dish that's perfect for gatherings and family dinners. It's a one-pot meal that's easy to make and full of flavor. Shrimp boil typically includes shrimp, new potatoes, corn, smoked sausage, lemons, and a blend of spices. The ingredients are boiled together in a large pot and then served family-style. Shrimp boil is a fun and festive way to enjoy a meal with loved ones.

Ingredients

  • cup seasoning sea food boil seasoning (Louisiana, Zatarains, or Bays, your choice.
  • 1 lb. potatoes small red halved
  • 6 ears corn on the cob cut into gobbets approx 2 inch pieces
  • 1 lb sausage smoked sausage, or kielbasi, cut into 1 to 2 inch pieces (we use Eckrich Smoked Sausage
  • 2 lbs shrimp de-veined
  • ¼ cup butter unsalted, softened
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper powder
  • 2 tablespoons salt Kosher
  • 2 medium onion yellow , peeled and quartered
  • 9 cloves garlic divided
  • 4 quarts water
  • 1 lb. craw-fish (optional)
  • ½ lb. crab king (optional), one per person
  • ½ lb. crab snow (optional), one per person
  • ½ lb. crab blue (optional), one per person
  • ½ lb. crab Dungeness (optional), one per person

Instructions

  • In a large stockpot, combine 4 quarts water, seafood boil seasoning, garlic, onion, and potatoes.
  • Add corn and sausages and optional seafood ; cook until seafood and potatoes are done, i.e. potatoes are cooked thru , when tested with a fork. Remove from heat; stir in shrimp. Cover and let stand until shrimp are pink and firm, 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Serve immediately , Suggest draining and dump on serving platter or bowl.

Notes

Serving with Spicy Rémoulade  or cocktail sauce are good options.  See separate recipe for Spicy Rémoulade , since it can be used elsewhere. See the recipe under " this and that"
